Student Recipient


Madison Gouza is pursuing a master’s degree in Nutrition, Healthspan, and Longevity at the University of Southern California, where she is also completing her dietetic internship. Madison earned her bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from the University of Maryland, College Park. Additionally, Madison has been a personal trainer for two years. She believes that the keys to a healthy life consists of a colorful whole food diet and a lifetime of movement."

Lauren Flowers has been a Registered Dietitian for 3+ years with a Master of Science degree in Clinical Nutrition. Lauren has been published in Nutrition in Clinical Practice for the study “Comparison of resting Energy Expenditure Assessment in Pediatric Oncology Patients.” She has also written an article for the Weight Matters magazine. She currently works as the program dietitian at TriStar Centennial Center for Weight Management. She provides nutrition education related to bariatric surgery and medical weight loss, and guides individuals through their nutrition-related behavioral change. Beyond working in the clinic, Lauren volunteers to teach nutrition and weight management with dietetic interns and nutrition undergraduates at Lipscomb and Middle Tennessee State University. She has also volunteered with the Weight Management DPG as the Resource Web Coordinator. During her free time Lauren enjoys backcountry camping, hiking, and kayaking in the Tennessee outdoors.

Lindsay Schmitz, MS, RD, LDN is the owner of Live Smarter Nutrition & Wellness, practicing out of The Health Club at Southpointe. She specializes in weight management, sport-specific nutrition counseling and educating consumers about pure, safe, alternative personal and home care choices.

Lindsay is credentialed with Aetna, Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, United HealthCare and Medicaid to deliver nutrition education to these insurance carrier’s members. She is a Senior Consultant with Pure Haven, a New England based company who manufactures healthy, clean and effective products for every family member.

Lindsay formerly held positions as a bariatric dietitian at West Penn Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital (Cincinnati, OH). Lindsay also has experience in public health as a manager and lead dietitian for a Woman, Infants and Children (WIC) office in Cincinnati. She graduated from Upper St. Clair High School, the University of Dayton and received her Master’s in Sports Nutrition from the University of Aberdeen (Scotland).


Katherine Arlinghaus earned her Masters degree in Public Health Nutrition and completed her dietetic internship at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She is currently a kinesiology doctoral candidate at the University of Houston where she studies community-based treatment of pediatric obesity. Katherine is passionate about addressing health disparities, and for her dissertation is currently conducting a randomized control trial to test the efficacy of a school-based obesity intervention for underserved adolescents. Katherine works part time in private practice for Houston Family Nutrition where she specializes in family-based weight management.
