Register to join the NEP-DPG webinar on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 and explore 'The Role of the RDN in Sustaining Positive Lifestyle' , 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. EST. Learn how to plan an effective approach for positive behavioral change of clients.
This webinar will present the components of a sustained lifestyle and relate the MNT process implemented by RDNs as a blueprint for establishing behavioral change with patients and clients. The webinar will review statistical techniques to guide RDNs when planning a feasible education or counseling approach for the public to effect sustained positive behaviors.
Presentation 1: Promoting Effective and Sustained Behavior Change to Mitigate Diet-Sensitive Disease
The presentation will highlight the complexity and challenges with identifying an approach for sustaining positive lifestyles. The discussion will focus on obesity as a major chronic disease impacting overall health of children and adults and relate MNT as the guide for RDNs implementing an improved behavioral process for obesity treatment.
Objectives:
- Describe multiple levels of influence that impact energy balance, health, and body weight outcomes.
- Relate the MNT (for obesity) process to a blueprint for behavioral change at the individual and household level.
- Identify how their education/counseling approach articulates with the evidence base for obesity treatment.

Presentation 2: Using the Multiphase Optimization Strategy (MOST) Framework for Optimizing Lifestyle Interventions.
The presentation will present challenges in both obesity research and treatment including a discussion about what questions RCTs don’t answer such as which components of an intervention will yield the best client outcome and potential for a sustained behavioral change.
Objectives:
- Identify the principles of the Multiphase Optimization Strategy (MOST) framework.
- Apply lifestyle intervention components to the MOST framework to evaluate the intervention’s effectiveness.
- Analyze adaptive intervention strategies for optimizing lifestyle interventions.
